Chipped Out
EP Review

Following on from a series of singles from 2018, starting with their bass-driven debut, Give Up, Essex boys BILK have taken a strong stance on the UK indie scene with their latest EP, 'Chipped Out'Taking sonic influence from your dad's favourite bands, along with Australian outfit The Chats and local indie pioneer RAT BOY, it's clear that Sol, Harry and Luke desperately want to revive the music scene in Chelmsford.

At 15 minutes, this indie-punk EP takes no prisoners, making the most of every second. All five tracks (even the relatively slower Weed Song) have a distinct confidence that  persuades us that they truly know what they are doing. BILK sound like they have a plan; they have a desire to play live music, and I would urge anyone who happens to be in the same city as them to spend an evening moshing to the chaos ensued by the first 3 tracks of Chipped Out. Energy is important to this band, and the opening track (reminiscent of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit) prepares us for the perfect introduction to their identity.

At the very least, Chipped Out is a blast to listen to. Hilarious stories of Sol's failed female pursuit in Can't Get it Up, coupled with the brutally honest Just Not Keen will keep the lyrically orientated listener engaged till
the end; on the other hand, addictively overwhelming drumming coupled with '5' chords recollective of pre-Humbug era Arctic Monkeys hits deliver an exciting burst of music that's hard not to love.

Catch BILK on their first UK headline tour from today (28th October) until 6th November.
